Born out of the necessity to give people more diversity in their planned destination experiences, Valise is an app made for the contemporary traveler and solo nomad.
heddles.comAlready established as one of the go-to blogs of the U.K., and a well known name among men's fashion afficianado's, Heddles looked to re-invent themselves with this project.
The goal — not a full re-design of their website and mobile space, but rather a facelift that would result in better visitor engagement, reduce bounce rates and a more cohesive look and feel. With that in mind, I began the challenge of reconstructing certain components including the Footer, Related Articles, Homepage Sidebar, designing a new Shop component and updating the color palette and typography styles.
When users first open Valise, they're taking directly to the login screen. Intentionally design with goal of getting users to immediately think of travel, the login screen makes use of beautiful imagery and a simple data capture for username and password.
After logging in, user reach the "My Cards" screen. This part of the experience highlights several options one can engage in including choosing a hotel or flight through the worlds most popular travel platforms, searching the web, and adding new places to travel.
The functionality of Valise is based one main feature, Searchability. Whether on the homepage, adding a new place to travel, or landing on the discover screen, the ability to search is baked into the core experience.
Inside the core experience, the app also allows users to create and share their travels. This is achieved with "Cards". Each card showcases where a user has traveled and can be liked, given hashtags and saved to a particular named category.
Within the Valise experience, users can create a multitude of collections from places they've traveled or planned destinations. Adding a new trip directly ties into the social element of the experience. Once a new trip is added it automatically creates a new card. Which can also be placed into a new or existing collection.
At the most basic level of this experience, Valise relies on a familiar aesthetic in an effort to reduce cognitive load and ensure user experience isn't compromised.
Built on a fully responsive design system, and building off the minimalist approach to desktop, we ensured a smooth and seamless transition to mobile which included re-invisioning the navigation.
